Description
REMEMBERING OLD FRIENDS
At the time I painted "Remembering Old Friends" less than a year before the Marshall fire, I had no inkling that its relevance would quickly become so poignant. Leaving a trail of blackened tree skeletons in its wake, the Marshall fire was driven by hurricane force winds which created their own brand of casualty. On my first walk through these fields in the aftermath, I was astounded to find the "Mother Tree" of South Boulder creek uprooted and stretching across the earth in front of me. I imagined the relentless fury of the wind at the moment it fell, unobserved and unheard as it thundered to the ground.
This is the presentation for the ten paintings, corresponding post-fire photos, and text that explains the backstory behind the art, as they appear in my art show "A Tribute to Marshall: A Journey Through Healing". My Marshall exhibition will be shown in various venues in and around Boulder, Colorado in the coming months. Above is the text included with the photo.
