REMEMBERING OLD FRIENDS
At the time I painted "Remembering Old Friends" less than a year before the Marshall fire, I had no inkling that its relevance would quickly become so poignant. Leaving a trail of blackened tree skeletons in its wake, the Marshall fire was driven by hurricane force winds which created their own brand of casualty. On my first walk through these fields in the aftermath, I was astounded to find the "Mother Tree" of South Boulder creek uprooted and stretching across the earth in front of me. I imagined the relentless fury of the wind at the moment it fell, unobserved and unheard as it thundered to the ground.
This is the presentation for the ten paintings, corresponding post-fire photos, and text that explains the backstory behind the art, as they appear in my art show "A Tribute to Marshall: A Journey Through Healing". About Anne Gifford
Anne Gifford is an award winning artist and the eight time poster artist for Colorado's Bolder Boulder 10K Memorial Day Race, one of the largest road races in the United States. She began her career as a silkscreen artist. After 25 years of printmaking, Anne now works with watercolor, building successive layers of color to create her vibrant, rich, and detailed paintings. She has lived in Colorado since 1976 and finds inspiration in the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains. Her paintings, like a pictorial journal, have chronicled her journey thus far.
