One of the most delightful aspects of creating this painting for me was the wonderful conversation I had with photographer Christopher Springmann when I contacted him to ask for permission to use his photograph of Georgia O'Keeffe as inspiration for a painting that I had wanted to do for a long time. Mr. Springmann had spent time with Georgia in 1974 and is the author of many classic photographs of this great artist. In speaking with him and hearing his first hand stories of Georgia, I felt as if I had gone back in time and had an opportunity to visit with her myself. Ghost Ranch in New Mexico, where Georgia had a home and studio, has been my painting vacation destination each year for many years. I can feel her creative spirit in the hills and canyons, and I hope some of it will rub off on me! If you look carefully, you can see her dog.
