Artist's Description

To paint my tree, I first painted a colorful wash on the paper, Next, I used a Q-tip dipped in masking fluid to block out the brightest lights. I then added another layer of paint and blocked out the next round of lights. I continued this layering process .... it was sort of like making a casserole :) Add some salt for the stars and there you have it!

Anne Gifford

Anne Gifford is an award winning artist and the eight time poster artist for Colorado's Bolder Boulder 10K Memorial Day Race, one of the largest road races in the United States. She began her career as a silkscreen artist, and now works with watercolor, building successive layers of color to create her vibrant, rich, and detailed paintings. She has lived in Colorado since 1976 and finds inspiration in the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains. On her many walks and hikes throughout the area, she is always on the lookout for new imagery. She relishes the depiction of a magic moment and the evidence she finds of the pulse of life, both past and present.
