HOPE AMIDST CHAOS
We returned to Bob’s property to choose the best of the rocks from the garden to take home with us. We would use them to build a memorial to what was. While there, we found some unexpected souvenirs. A clunky vase I had made in college, my sole attempt at ceramics. Why this? The pools of molten metal that were the car engine. They made interesting shapes. We picked our way down the broken steps to the rock garden which surrounded the charcoal cottonwood tree. It was there that we saw it, planted by Grandma 40 years ago. Hope in the form of a daffodil.
This is the presentation for the ten paintings, corresponding post-fire photos, and text that explains the backstory behind the art, as they appear in my art show "A Tribute to Marshall: A Journey Through Healing". My Marshall exhibition will be shown in various venues in and around Boulder, Colorado in the coming months. Above is the text included with the photo.
About Anne Gifford
Anne Gifford is an award winning artist and the eight time poster artist for Colorado's Bolder Boulder 10K Memorial Day Race, one of the largest road races in the United States. She began her career as a silkscreen artist. After 25 years of printmaking, Anne now works with watercolor, building successive layers of color to create her vibrant, rich, and detailed paintings. She has lived in Colorado since 1976 and finds inspiration in the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains. Her paintings, like a pictorial journal, have chronicled her journey thus far. On her many walks and hikes throughout the area, she is always on the lookout for new imagery. She relishes the depiction of a magic moment and the evidence she finds of the pulse of life,...

I cannot imagine the loss you describe and I am in awe of the healing journey through painting. Your work is wonderful, Anne. Thanks for sharing your story with us!

What a treasure this painting is Anne . Finding hope in the form of a golden daffodil how poetic . Your story reminds me of Walt Whitman’s , poem ,of a surprise view of a sea of daffodils on a hill.
Anne Gifford replied:
Thank you for your lovely comment, Susan. This indeed is one of the paintings I have done that is most dear to my heart.
