I have always been drawn to the way the cottonwood trees are silhouetted against a layered mountain backdrop in the Colorado fields at dusk. Though many remain, I remember when there were a lot more trees. When I look closely, I can see them still.
Anne Gifford is an award winning artist and the eight time poster artist for Colorado's Bolder Boulder 10K Memorial Day Race, one of the largest road races in the United States. She began her career as a silkscreen artist. After 25 years of printmaking, Anne now works with watercolor, building successive layers of color to create her vibrant, rich, and detailed paintings. I so relate to this stunning painting, Annie. Yes, trees are old friends and old souls. They have been standing witness from before we were born and will be here after we are gone. The trees, alive and gone, stand as silhouettes in the glorious sunset. This painting is so personal and your emotions about this place come though beautifully.
Anne Gifford replied:
Thank you always for your insightful and thoughtful comments, Harriet. You always can see right through to my intent.
